Double Wall Borehole Packer

The Double Wall Borehole Packer (shown above) was based on RST's P12-20 packer, and was customized with additional modifications and features to meet the specifications of the client's project. The P12-20 packer is designed to inflate into a 12 to 20 in. borehole. The client, who specializes in the exploration and development of groundwater resources, needed to extract fresh water from a deep seated aquifer, slightly artesian, up to 1000 ft. below sea level. In addition to the basic function of the packer, they also wanted to monitor the surrounding area where the packer was placed. To fill their request, the RST team of engineers developed the Double Wall Borehole Packer with an 8 in. wall that surrounded the 6 in. central shaft. The construction of the additional 8" wall provided easy access for channeling wires for the sensors and pump. This allowed for contributory parameters to be monitored, whereas a traditional packer design would not allow.
