ECHOPRO SMA

EchoPro SMA

The Kelunji EchoPro SMA (strong motion accelerograph) is an all-in-one recording system that includes an internal MEMS ±2g accelerometer measuring motion in three dimensions, normally North-South, East-West, and Up-Down.

The instrument is ideally suited to structural monitoring. Although MEMS sensors are not as sensitive as those used by seismologists for research into earthquakes, they are more than sensitive enough to detect signals that are well below the level where you can expect damage to structures.

The EchoPro was designed from the outset as a continuous recorder, using USB for storage to take advantage of the ever-increasing capacity and ever-reducing cost of solid state USB drives. For example, a 64GB USB drive can store about 5 years of continuous triaxial data sampled at 100Hz. The traditional method of using triggered recording was hit and miss, with recorders that had limited memory often made insensitive to avoid false triggers, but sometimes missing real events of interest.

Installation is simple. The EchoPro SMA is supplied on a mounting plate (left) which is simply bolted down and levelled using the threaded feet. The SMA can be mounted on the ground or on a wall, with the vertical component being offset by 1g due to gravity. An SMA is often oriented parallel to a wall in a structure rather than according to compass directions, but a North indicator is included for installation orientation.

The EchoPro SMA shares all of the features and specifications of the EchoPro. The EchoPro SMA-specific data sheet is also available for download.
